Fingerprint sensor (Pixel9) can only properly read one thumb, not the other.

Both thumbs worked fine on stock android. Now one thumb works flawlessly and other one works 1 out of 10 times (i basically gave up on it).

So far I've tried re-registering the nonworking thumb, delete both and re-add, add that thumb multiple times, and rebooting the phone. Non worked.

No screen protector ether. One

I'm right-handed and my left thumb works fine. Can't even enroll my right thumb let alone unlock with it. This seems to be common and the best explanation I've heard is that our favored digits have more wear and tear, thumbs especially.

Do Pixel 9 series have optical sensors like my 7 Pro?

I dunno the type of sensor it has, but both thumbs worked well with stock OS. Same hardware, stopped working with G-os.

A quick search tells me 9a has an optical sensor and like every Tensor Pixel I've used, these sensors can be fickle. Try to enroll when conditions are ideal. The sensor may not read prints when fingers are cold, dry or rough. Winter versus summer can make a difference.

Weren't you talking about Pixel 9a a couple days ago? Or did I read the title wrong? Pixel 9 has an ultrasonic sensor which should work better than optical. If not you might consider having Google fix it if the warranty is still active.

I had so much trouble with fingerprint unlock, embarrassingly all of it solved by just pressing harder on the sensor.
