to Brazilian Graphene users: have you experienced issues with banks?

(I have no idea if making posts in any language other than English is allowed here so I will write in English even tho it's not the native language of the people I'm trying to target with this post, but I feel that if you're Brazilian AND you are using GOS as your daily driver you 100% know fluent English.)

I daily drive a Google Pixel 7a (cheapest most recent Pixel I could get back in 2024, and "cheapest" is REALLY an understatement cause it was still mad expensive compared to what buying one anywhere else would cost) running GrapheneOS, I had no issues with it for nearly a year, now my bank (Inter) is giving me a lot of headaches.

Firstly, the bank app used to work just fine with no Google Play Services, but then out of nowhere this year they decided to require it (at first I thought they just had an audit or something and a lazy professional told them to "lol just start requiring it for _le securite lol" but seems like Google has been MAD annoying recently and REALLY trying to shove the Google Play Services down developers) which, not a problem since I could sandbox the play services, but now, seems like they are implying with transfers (Pix) because of Graphene.

I recently tried to make a transfer between myself to another account (using Pix) and, the bank instantly logged me out and forced a password reset, and all the times I tried it it kept doing it, at first I thought it was my VPN that was causing that so I turned it off (nowadays I've learned that, it couldn't even have been that since I have t he VPN on my main profile and I isolate my banking app in the private space) but it still failed, gave up on doing that, and then just the other day the same thing happened again, keep in mind that I've recently done some transactions in the Global Account (sending some money through ACH to myself on Wise) and it went through with no problems, only doing Pix transfers that seem to be doing that.

And, upon looking it up, I could find a complaint filled on "reclameaqui" (if for some reason you're an outsider reading this right now, this is a website commonly used to complain about services) and someone was facing the same exact problem, and their answer was:

"The message is displayed when a virus or any modification in the smartphone device that can break the security rules of the application is identified, trying to avoid data breaches to third parties. For this reason it is requested for the password to be reset.

To solve this issue, we suggest to factory reset the device. Access the providers official website and follow the necessary instructions. After reseting, it will be needed to install the app again and log in" (in case you can read Portuguese and wanna read more, here is the link)

So I'm curious, could this possibly be the bank app having an issue with GrapheneOS? (since, after all, it clearly states when you boot the device that it is loading a different operating system) have you also experienced some issue recently and what to do about it? I am considering switching banks because of this but, I feel that it would just be a game of whack-a-mole trying to keep an account until it just decides to just fuck you over for using Graphene (and I doubt complaining will make them change the policy, while I can say that MAYBE we will go under the radar in Brazil by a bit since so many few people here use a Google PIxel device, I can definitely see a crackdown against Graphene users worldwide and persecutions etc)

Blame GOS for constantly refusing to lower their requirements thus sticking to expensive hardware.

jakarta Forget about it. There is nothing wrong on GrapheneOs, despite the fact some applications may not function properly on GOS mostly because of "protections" coded by app developers which are inneficient in a case of a system wide compromise. But let's go:

1- Have you tried enabling Exploit Compatibility Mode on Inter app info?

Some banks use Dynamic code loading via memory.

2- Does your location was on?

A lot of banks enforce to use your location to log in.

3- When you are confirming the pix there is a possibility of the bank ask for your camera to take your picture

You will have to enable the camera.

4- I don´t know how Inter works but i can assure you that almost all banks in brazil have apps compatible with GrapheneOs. You just need to temporarily switch those settings above and they will work. The only app that doesn't work and this forum has a topic for that is gov.br.

DeletedUser622 You don't have to use Grapheneos. Nobody is stopping you from using a cheaper phone.

If you must play the blame game, then aim it at the phone manufacturers that could, but don't, offer secure phones. Or the policy makers that could, but don't, force them to make secure phones. Blaiming a small open source project is just plain stupid. It's like blaming an umbrella manufacturer for the rain.

that is why I use GrapheneOS, security/privacy, no compromises, no false promises, no smoke and mirrors, just a world class operating system in my phone.

DeletedUser622 Because it would not be secure. The project goal is to provide privacy. To have privacy you need security:

Hardware, firmware and software specific to devices like drivers play a huge role in the overall security of a device. The goal of the project is not to slightly improve some aspects of insecure devices and supporting a broad set of devices would be directly counter to the values of the project. A lot of the low-level work also ends up being fairly tied to the hardware.

The fact that no other phone manufacturer offer secure enough hardware has nothing to do with Grapheneos.

My understanding is that LineageOS runs on a wide variety of hardware, including some devices that are inexpensive.

From your perspective, what would a hypothetical "low-security GrapheneOS" offer that LineageOS doesn't?

Have you tried to enter your CPF in GrapheneOS? Your phone won't work without CPF like everything else in Brazil. We have something similar in Argentina called DNI but not as intense. kk.

Sorry I don't have much helpful to add, but glad to see a fellow GrapheneOS in Brazil.

And other other posters, pretty sure OP meant that imported phones are expensive in Brazil. Retail prices of a pixel or an iPhone are easily cost 2x as much than prices in the US.
