All notifications died after clearing play services...

Hey everyone, I got tired of seeing play services creep up to 3GB of use, so decided to clear it out and its a more manageable 500MB.

In doing so it killed all my notifications, all of them. Nothing notifies me anymore. I did of course sign back in with a google account and started re-downloading apps like the proton suite (email, etc). Despite this, notifications are still broken.

I did search but didnt see something specific regarding all apps breaking, plenty of specific apps.

Suggestions are welcome. Thanks again everyone, appreciate it

new-graphene-user If all app notifications stopped working, it seems like maybe Play Services got corrupted. Did you try uninstalling/reinstalling GPS? It sounds like it just reacted poorly to having its data cleared. (Edited to add: this kind of makes sense, seeing as GPS as designed by Google is not a separate app, so its reaction having its data cleared likely isn't something Google bothered testing.)

You need to reinstall all apps that make use of FCM to get notifications back working again.
Clearing Play Services' data is not advised and breaks FCM, among other things.

I recommend a full reinstall of Play Services + Store altogether, then reinstall all apps.

new-graphene-user Before you reinstall everything as people are suggesting you might try to delete app data from those apps that require push notifications. The app will think it's freshly installed. It has worked for me. You WILL lose all settings etc. on these apps by doing so.

As mentioned above, you can try just reinstalling Play Services/Store first to see if it restores notifications, some apps will check every boot etc for FCM availability but many only check on first install and opening saving the result. If the latter is the case then these apps will also need a reinstallation.

Thanks everyone. Uninstalled play store and play services, redownloaded from the graphene store and got everything working again.

However, last night's update broke it all again. I cant login to play store and so no notifications etc. Gonna post a new thread on that.
