How to play FLAC audio?

Was setting up a music client on GrapheneOS (Tempo, and then Power Ampache) to connect to my music library on a Nextcloud instance with the Music app. MP3 and OGG etc play fine, but most of my music is FLAC.

Is there a developer option or something to enable playback for FLAC?

jingai Not sure what's your music setup with Nextcloud, but if you just sync music as files (and not streaming), you could try using Auxio player. Among features on its github page it says "Full ReplayGain support (On MP3, FLAC, OGG, OPUS, and MP4 files)", so it must be able to play FLAC just fine. You can install it from secure Accrescent app store, which you can install from GrapheneOS built-in App Store.

This is probably the best answer; it really can play anything. That said, if you're a real music aficionado (especially classical, which is where FLAC really predominates), you'll probably need gapless playback, which it doesn't support. foobar2000 is the best for that.

Now that phones have enormous storage, I just use syncthing to get my whole flac library on the phone and use f2k for playback. Works brilliantly. It's available from Play Store or as a direct apk download from https://www.foobar2000.org/

Been around forever (I started using it in college in 2001) and hasn't changed much. Just works.

jingai FLAC isn't a common audio file type. Most common is MP3. I believe you can use VLC to convert FLAC to MP3. Or a different program of your choice. Some computers let you do it right from your files app on the computer.

nandohyphen1 FLAC is pretty common in my mind. Has been getting more common too, even Spotify let's you play FLAC files now. Any modern audio player will play FLAC files

I have 2TB of FLAC audio, so syncing it to the phone isn't a realistic option. I am attempting to stream it from my Nextcloud server via Subsonic/Ampache, but honestly the source isn't the issue: I cannot play the files on the phone. even if they are downloaded to the phone. Not sure why.

This is weird. Android, Linux and the browsers support flac since a long time.

xxx It seemed weird to me too. The same setup was working fine on a Pixel 6a with stock Android. I feel like I must be doing something wrong, but not sure how to debug the problem.

Maybe start with a player that is known to work, and go from there to get on to your preferred player/streaming set-up.

Never had a problem playing .flac files. I use Auxio from F-Droid.
