Hello, this is my first post, and I really want to move from iOS to GrapheneOS.
The only thing that keeps me from doing so, is having Whatsapp working. I need it for work, family and friends. I also use Signal, but I just can´t stop having Whatsapp, I need it.
The idea of using the most secure and private apps sounds nice, but it's not always feasible. I prefer GrapheneOS with all the hardening, permission and security measures to be the OS who runs WhatsApp. So I want to be able to do everything I can do with Android, and then be me the one who chooses the apps and permissions.
I've seen a lot of different posts, from different moments, where some people manage to use it with no problems, while others bump into a list of different issues and just can´t.
So... first question: does Whatsapp work today?
I know:
- some apps demand a strict check for the OS (like banking apps),
- other depend on services provided by Google Play Services (which I would like being able to run them installing Play Services)
The second question is about the future...Isn´t there a risk of being cut out by Google in some way?
