GOS and Gboard alternatives

Hi all! I am new here on the forum.
I'm looking for an alternative keyboard. Maybe something that is not GOS keyboard or gboard.

I'm not a fan of GOS keyboard because it does not have glide typing, and also when I add another language I do not get the dictionary to correct spelling for a certain language I selected. (or downloadable separately)?

I am currently using Google Gboard because it has those 2 items that I mentioned above that gos does not have. But of course without network permissions, other permissions and usage statistics, etc. Looking to step away from gboard. well... because google. Want to stay away from their ecosystem.

What are your recommendations, and what do you use?

Also, would the android aosp keyboard from lineageos be an option or available to find? I have used lineage in the past so I can conform it has the 2 options I like.

I would say I don't REALLY need glide typing, its just a nice feature to use from time to time.

identify0 There are many. FlorisBoard is popular in this community. I use FUTO keyboard. It also depends on your usual language.

identify0 I use glide typing too. Futo was the best I found but I eventually went back to GBoard. Like you, it's without permissions and I wish it wasn't Google, but it's just so much superior that I found all alternatives regularly irritating. The prediction and autocorrect on others were not very good.

I personally use Gboard with the network permission off. There is IPC where theoretically Gboard may be able to communicate with any other google app and if one or more of them has network permission they theoretically may be able to upload some data?? But I don’t think anyone has proven this to be the case unless I’m mistaken.

Gboard is a really good keyboard in my opinion. You can even download voice typing offline and then turn off network and it still works.

To turn off network for gboard long press on the app, tap app info, tap permissions, tap network and toggle it to off.

But as for a recommendation for another keyboard I used FUTO keyboard for a while and found it to be quite good. Even their voice typing was pretty good to be honest.

Others have mentioned Florisboard in other threads but I haven’t personally used it.

I've tried several and Florisboard is the best for my use case. FUTO could be good in the future but it is not FOSS unfortunately...

WestQuester heliboard with Google's gesture library loaded is a pretty close second for me. It's not perfect, but it's really good. Good enough that I could finally ditch Gboard
