vr29 having Play Services installed doesn't directly impact Location or getting a lock.
By default all Location requests are directed to GPS/GNSS only. This requires a lock with satellites primarily through having line of sight to the sky. It also takes a little longer. First time up to 5 minutes while downloading A-GPS data but still a little longer than stock for consecutive locks.
We offer our own Network based location service if you wish to use that to increase speed and especially if used indoors. This requires being toggled on along with wifi and bluetooth scanning too.
We also offer use of Googles network location provider which can be toggled on by tapping the sandboxed play running notification and toggling on wifi and bluetooth scanning as well as location permission being granted to both services and store.
