Current way to get a new google account w/o phone verification

Hello Forum,

I am trying to make a new google account since I came back to GOS from germany and any attempts (public wifi or vpn) from my laptop always want me to do scan a qr code and do verification like that. Since I really need the Playstore to install and update certain applications this is kind of a problem. Really close to just giving up and using the google account which I used over the past 3 years where I could not bother with this shenanigan in order to live my life.
Google probably already fingerprinted the phone already since it is in the same wifi as my old one lol.

In the past it worked just from public wifi but it seems like it is not the case anymore.

There are two ways:

Use public WIFI, and create the account from within Play Store. I did it once like that, although I was using PixelOS. I just skipped any verification things they asked for.
Use phone verification. No, seriously. But don't use your phone number. Sign up for a service such as juicysms.com, deposit some Moneros into it, and pay like $1 to receive a SMS code. Don't link or save the number to your account since you can only use it once.

These two methods worked for me.

libertarian I haven't tried the first method, but your second doesn't work. The way Google does verification now is that you scan a QR code that opens your SMS and populates a message that you send to Google. Things like juicysms and smspool don't work, and all VoIP services I've tried result in "this number cannot be used for verification."

Edit: Actually, OP has stated that your first method doesn't work either. To my knowledge, there is no way to currently open a Google account without providing an actual phone number.

spacecdt Strange, both of these methods worked for me in the last month. Maybe it was a recent change?

OP mentioned creating an account on his laptop. What I did was I had a Pixel with stock PixelOS, and created an account from within Play Store. Maybe that is the difference. Google has more trust in it's own hardware and the Play Store.

libertarian I can confirm that this method works! If you have an old Pixel (or buy a used one specifically for this purpose), you can create a throwaway Google account during stock Android setup without SMS verification.

I tried over and over using the free temporary phone numbers and after trying enough times over and over, I eventually gave it a break for a few days or a week. Next time I went to create the new G account, I was able to skip providing a phone number.

I've been able to create accounts by setting up a Google account on a new private space via Play Store while on VPN. You may want to try different VPN servers and other countries. Delete the private space each time and try again. (Push your VPN app to the private space from main profile and turn it on before you install Google stuff).

I haven't done this in several months though.

The reason I thought to try this was because on stock, Google actually prompted me with an option to create a new Google account as a privacy measure when you create a new private space. Thanks for the tip, Google! Lol

Yeah I just tried it from a private space using different vpn servers and it always prompted me sms verification :D

akarin my only advice would be to keep trying different VPN servers and countries on a fresh private space. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
I had luck with USA servers in the past.

I am pretty confident, in the past, it was dependent on the country of origin they detected. Fx Germany, (iirc) had mandatory KYC for app store signups.

With new more strict standards (Chat control Europe etc), I can guess they would be blacklisting all VPN IP's that was an easy way to circumvent.

Play store censorship, mandatory KYC/ AML for app stores is an absurdist concept.

derartzin I mean I kinda get the Idea of wanting to lock you into your controlled ecosystem (google) by any means possible. It is a common platform enshittification tactic. The biggest problem we have is that there is no good independent appstore for android that I would consider as secure and for people who chose to participate in all the kind of things modern life expects you to "just install an app".

Bonus Rant:
I live in Europe, need to use banking, need to use certain messenger apps, need to be able to charge my car without getting an rfid card from 7 different companies (travel across boarders with an EV). Granted most of those applications can be just installed from all kinds of sources, but install and updating via play store still is the best solution.

Just a few days ago, I created a google account from the playstore on a Samsung phone running OneUI. I picked for work option among the three which were personal, child, and work. Not sure about the personal option but no phone verification asked for the creation of the account for the work option. Although, drive among other things(I forgot) asks for phone verification to use. I can use the playstore just fine. Creating a google account during the phone setup works as well.
Note: I haven't tried using that account on other devices.

What about the simplest solution and that is to get a pre-paid SIM card from idk newspaper shop/mall use it to verify and throw it away?
Like I am trying to see what is the big deal here.

Curious If you're in the US, you can't use physical SIM cards with Pixel 10 and future models. Though I suppose something like Phreeli would work for this since they offer eSIMs.

In most countries of the world there are no anonymus pre paid sim cards.

I managed once to register an anonymous account through play store in a public coffee shop. When I did the exact same thing five minutes later it did not work anymore. So time is a factor. I also had the case that I could register an account but it got blocked two days later without any activity on it. This remains an issue.

We in Israel can get a free anonymous sim card on every corner. Just top it up for data. Incoming SMS and calls are free.

But what happens if the phone number associated with your anonymous SIM card is recycled and sold to someone else after you are finished with it?
