I commented on another post for a different device, but this seems to be an issue. On my P8P I've lost notifications from Google Chat suddenly (everything has been super solid for well over a year that I've been using this phone). As a secondary event, it appears my Gmail app isn't able to sound out emails that I've tried sending.
Sometime last week around Thanksgiving my google chat app stopped alerting when messages are received. I've been thru a whole bunch of troubleshooting on my own and I'm 99.9% confident this is not an app issue, nor is it a networking issue (I feel satisfied I've ruled those out, but I supposed ya never know). I'm a working cybersecurity professional and feel I have a decent grasp on some basic testing to make these assumptions, but I'm willing to entertain other views.
FYI, my device:
Device: Pixel 8 Pro
- GrapheneOS Build: 2025112101 (not seeing this listed on release page for P8P, official Stable build ends in **00)
- GrapheneOS Channel: Stable
- Google Chat app: v 2025.11.17.83321046.Release
*** Chat is running inside a "Work" profile via Island app with Google Play Services & Store installed from Graphene's App Store app into that Work partition.
Troubleshooting:
- Wiped cache for Google Chat app
- Wiped cache for Google Play Services and Google Play Store
- Reinstalled Google Chat app from Google Play Store (the other version I think I installed via Aurora Store app)
- Reinstalled Google Play Services and Store
- Disabled my VPN security and my VPN to make sure, just in case
- Still no joy
