Contacts app loading veeery slowing

Hi.
When I open the Contacts app it is 9times out of 10 veeeery slow to load. I have had to wait up to something like a minute.
This has started to happen this year (2025), I think.
I am on a Pixel 7, Android version 16.

Normal? Anything I should do?

EDIT: 3'000 on one account, 3'300 on another but many repeat themselves. Over the years, I have imported from several phone via csv files and many contacts have looong empty fields still appearing. Not sure what to do. I've been with tuta mail for some 10 years and their contact app was really poor int he beginning. Now it's just pretty poor lol

primipare you should try deduping the contact stacks, make the numbers shrink.

primipare I recommend backing the contacts up first. Then when you have a smaller amound without duplicates, check them to be sure, then delete the old bloated files.

how do i delete all contacts from one of the accounts (the phone account)? i want to synch my contacts only with my tuta account.
do i have to select all one by one and then delete?
what happens if i delete the phone account?

primipare I'll look for some tool for deduplification, if I find something, I'll let you know.

This app has the option 'merge duplicate contacts', you could try and see if that feature does what it says properly, then export as file. 3000+ entries sounds unrealistic to go through manually.
