Unable to send emails with attachments in GMail

Hi, I'm new to GrapheneOS.

I installed it on Pixel 8, along with Google Play Services and Gmail. I'm able to receive emails with attachments, download and view them. I can send emails without attachments, but when I try to send an email with a photo attached it sits in the Outbox and never gets sent out.

I can see in the logs that there are errors complaining about access (ENOENT). I have given Google Play Services full access to Photos and Videos in Permissions. Is there something else I'm missing ?

I've had this issue too in the past days, I thought it was a server-side problem in Gmail… I haven't checked the log.

What's your exploit protection settings for Gmail? I have them all enabled.

Vomitorius let's say you're right (you're not, see akc3n) and there's no point to using GOS if you're going to install "the yuckies". You aren't even trying to help, you're only being condescending and rude.

Don't get me wrong, "Grouchy" isn't in my username for no reason, I can definitely be a grump, but let's not be an ass without also providing helpful advice.

qnos definitely agree that it seems like a permissions issue. Just curious, how exactly are you attaching the photo? Through the app itself or sharing from your gallery app to the Gmail app? Have you tried storage scopes?

Having the same issue.
Trying to resolve this issue i tried so far:

Clear Gmail cache
Clear Gmail data
Update Gmail app / Remove and Reinstall App
Restart device
Checked permissions

Since you've been around this community for over 6 months, perhaps you may recall that we have a website with information explaining the point of our project. In case you missed the front page of grapheneos.org's about sub-section, No Google apps or services:

GrapheneOS will never include either Google Play services or another implementation of Google services like microG. It's possible to install Play services as a set of fully sandboxed apps without special privileges via our sandboxed Google Play compatibility layer. See the FAQ section for more details on our plans for filling in the gaps from not shipping Play services and Google apps.

So, to clarify the answer regarding your first comment:

GrapheneOS does not exist specifically to avoid Google or specifically avoid Google apps / services and point of the project has nothing to do with being against a specific company.

The purpose of GrapheneOS is providing a high level of privacy and security (substantially improving both from AOSP, see https://grapheneos.org/features.

Let's recap the clarification: The purpose of GrapheneOS is to combine providing a high level of privacy and security with great usability and app compatibility in a production quality device.

That has nothing to do with the purpose of GrapheneOS. It doesn't exist to reduce the amount of money earned by Google or other companies. For now, Pixels are currently by far the best devices for this and the only ones meeting our official requirements listed at https://grapheneos.org/faq#future-devices.

There are many here that have a life that revolves around work and corporate environments which cannot be avoided. GrapheneOS provides users in those situations more privacy, security, and control even if they still use Google services and the like. I myself am one of those individuals. I also have another GOS device that doesn't involve anything to do with Google.

The point of using GrapheneOS is not de-googling, as the maintainers have themselves stated elsewhere. It is to regain control of your data and only share what you want to share without providing wide ranging permissions to apps. In this case, Google's services run inside a sandbox like any other app with only the permissions I grant it.

I understand your need to bring attention to how you use it, but not everyone has the same requirements or use cases like you do.

GrouchyGrape I'm attaching the photo from the GMail app composer screen. It can navigate to the photos, pick a photo and attach it. But the email never goes through.

I have given Google Play services Photos and Videos access "Always allow all" now and still have the same issue. Previously I tried storage scopes granting access to a folder within DCIM/

Same issue with gmail attachments here and also I can no longer choose google (contacts) as my "contacts storage provider" which I think is somehow related.

Vomitorius the passive aggressive and sarcasm thick response really wasn't necessary, everybody has a different position. I understand yours, I'm just hoping you can understand others. Not everything is all or nothing, some people need to take steps in their privacy/security journey that simply begins with GrapheneOS and all of it's OS level features and benefits without going cold turkey on Big G.

Just like giving up various habits we develop as human beings some can give things up without a second thought others need to find ways of lowering the dose/exposure gradually by making various lifestyle changes etc. Breaking up with Google is the same thing.

GrapheneOS is part of this toolkit for users to figure it out for themselves.
