"Can't connect to Fi" message when setting up Google Fi eSIM

I'm trying to get my phone set up and working, but I'm stuck at the point of getting Google Fi running, which is my cell provider. I've already got Google Play and GP Services installed. Both have network permissions. Google Fi has network permissions as well. All other Google apps have network permissions denied.

Is this expected behavior? If so, how can I get around it?

Resupply8986 I use fi as well make sure to go to setting and allow esims. You will also need to allow Google play services phone and text permissions if you want rcs. On a side note you will also need to enable WiFi calling in settings. I just open settings app and search for "calling" and find the option that way. Also Google play services will need network permissions for rcs as well. You can activate rcs then turn it off but I've had trouble keeping rcs active with this method. Also fo does not work in a non main profile or private spaces. You may also get it all set us then remove Google play services entirely but if you do you will lose WiFi calling rcs and network switching.

Resupply8986 Is the Fi app installed in the owner profile (with Play)?

Klingerman01 also you can't be using a VPN while activating. Can't believe I forgot that step. Also you have to be connected to WiFi.

Klingerman01 Oh wow, I did not realize there was a toggle for esims support. I don't think I have ever seen that on a phone before. Pretty cool! I have toggled it on and will restart to see if that fixes things.

Resupply8986 it should I change carriers and operating systems fairly regularly. Google Fi has a few steps but I can confirm it works well.

Klingerman01 It worked great! Unfortunately, RCS chats are still completely busted, so I will need to wait to start using GOS until later. I will hang onto the phone and the GOS installation though until they get that fixed, as I already have everything else set up except for the phone number, which I now know how to do.

Resupply8986 no luck? Works fine here. Google play services needs phone and message permissions and you have to toggle rcs on and off.
