Media picker keeps stopping

I have a new Pixel 9 Pro, 128GB, and installed Graphene. I took care to use only the stock apps and everything was hunky dory. But then I created a new user, installed the Google Play Store so I could install my banking app, which went well. I then decided to restart the phone and now every minute or so, I am seeing "Media picker keeps stopping" over and over.

Restarting did not change anything. I decided to delete the second user thinking this might solve the issue, but after restart, no - same messages are popping up repeatedly.

So, I took to the measure of:

Turning phone off
Hold Power + Volume Down
Select Recovery Mode
When “No command” appears, then pressed:
Power + tap Volume Up
In recovery menu, choose:
“Factory reset” / “Wipe data”

It did that and started me up in Graphene once again. No messages! Yay!

Like an insane person, I followed the same steps above because I can't access my bank without their phone app, and hoped to gawd that I wouldn't get the same results.... but I did and now I'm back to these screens popping up. Once these messages start, other apps will quit on launch. Now I have to resort to a completely full wiping and installing the OS.

So.... much.... time.... spent... on.... this.....

Can anyone shed some light on what's going on? Thanks.

My environment is:

Pixel 8 Pro, 128GB
Graphene: Stable (no prerelease security updates downloading), Android 16. Build 2025112101
Google Play Store (48.3.25-31)

After setting up the stock GrapheneOS and then as the one and only user and installing the Google Playstore and its dependencies but no other apps, the crashes of Playstore started.

My only solution is to avoid the Playstore, but unfortunately I can't then use my banking app nor Android Auto.

rasbubboa Right, first of all, you do have both Sandboxed Google Playstore and Sandboxed Google Play Services installed, right?

Correct. I installed Google Play Services via the GrapheneOS App Store. There is no other software on the phone, such as apps installed from the Playstore. The phone is otherwise empty.

rasbubboa Now go into Settings > Apps > All apps
In the top right menu tap 'show system'

Scroll down to Media Picker and enter its page.
Tap 'show logs'

Thanks for your help, Novalissoide. I don't have the Playstore installed, however, I am still experiencing crashes even on stock apps. I've submitted a ticket on GitHub here. Perhaps the OS hasn't quite caught up with the Pixel 9 Pro.
