Hi everyone,
I’m having a strange issue with custom MP3 ringtones on my Pixel 9 Pro running GrapheneOS.
I copied several MP3 files from my old smartphone into the /Ringtones/ folder on the Pixel.
I tried both USB transfer and direct download onto the phone — same result.
All these files play perfectly fine in VLC on the Pixel itself, so the files are intact.
However, when I set any of these MP3s as a ringtone, the phone plays completely different or distorted sounds (high-pitched squeaks or noise) through the built-in speaker when I receive a call.
Preinstalled system ringtones work normally.
The same issue occurs even with other MP3s.
I’ve tested playback both via the phone’s speaker and without any Bluetooth or USB audio devices connected.
It seems like GrapheneOS (or maybe Android 16 on the Pixel 9 Pro) doesn’t handle certain MP3 formats correctly when used as ringtones.
Has anyone else experienced this or found a workaround?
Would converting the MP3s to another format (like AAC or OGG) help?
Any insights would be greatly appreciated!
