Recently switched to grapheneos

Hiya,

So I recently was able to switch over to grapheneos after my spouse had shared info about it a long while ago, unfortunately was still paying phone off until recently.

However, I am amazed that it has three features I've been looking trying to figure out a way to implement for such a long time.

Mainly turning off wifi/Bluetooth after a certain amount of time when no connection is made (I've been doing this manually when not in use) honestly I don't understand why this isn't a more standard feature for Android OS in general.

The third item is being able to use fingerprint for things after I've unlocked my phone but not to unlock my phone, I'll say again I don't understand why features like this are not the standard.

Also while I'm making my first post, wanted to add some app compatible info.

The Navy Federal Credit Union app works with no issues that I've come across.

Also as a Walmart employee right now, the mywalmart app works, with only an issue with the clock in/out feature.

In displays a fairly generic location error, and honestly sometimes had trouble with it before graphene. But as long as I clock in on work computer the app works perfectly fine.

Anyways that's all I wanted to share right now.

You can access these settings by going to Settings app > Security and privacy > Exploit protection

Apps have to enable this themselves in order for it to work natively. However there is an open-source app that you can install that may be useful to you. https://github.com/PranavPurwar/AppLock

cryoten The GrapheneOS team doesn't much advertise this, and it's obviously nowhere nearly as high priority as security, but they also have implemented various other small but impactful usability improvements. For example, bringing back the per-app battery optimizations manager after an Android 14 update (if I'm not mistaken) removed it, adding back the clear cache and clear storage buttons for apps that offer a button to manage the storage in the app, etc.

userofgos I apologize if I was unclear, I have these features working currently just fine, my intended meaning was that until switching to graphene I had been looking these specific features.

Now that I'm on graphene I have them finally, and then was just trying to say that these features should be more common in general.

cryoten ah gotcha. Thanks for the clarification. I agree there are a lot of features that GrapheneOS has that should be features on other mobile OS's. :)

To add to previous post, there are a lot of features that other OSs have and GrapheneOS chooses to forgo for overall improvement of security and privacy and reducing of attack surface. In comparison, you can improve your health by taking multivitamins, but generally more powerful way is removing junk from your diet.

Watermelon delayed update: because I had posted this at the start of my days off, by the time I was able to try different settings I forgot to come back.

But basically all I need to do to get the my Walmart app to allow me to clock in/out is turn on wifi scanning before hitting the button and then I can turn it back off once I'm finished hitting the button.
