OEM Unlocking is disabled

I am guessing I am out of luck here but I bought a Pixel 9 through Mint Mobile and went through the installation steps however the OEM Unlocking toggle is disabled with the message, "Unavailable on carrier-locked devices". I even did a factor reset after installing the latest updates but the toggle remains disabled. Does this mean I will be unable to install GrapheneOS on this phone?

Please let me know if there is any additional information I can provide to help diagnose or confirm this.

you have to pay out the whole contract for the phone to be able to carrier and oem unlock a phone bought through a carrier

AFAIK, (almost?) all phones sold by carriers disable the OEM Unlock toggle.
You can only return it, AFAIK there is no way to enable that toggle.

It used to be doable on old Android versions (https://xdaforums.com/t/root-without-unlocking-bootloader.2820628/#post-54249202), but not anymore.

Maybe at the end of your contract if you buy the phone, your carrier might unlock it for you?

Thanks, I should I have done my research because I wasn't aware of this.

I am on a prepaid plan so I don't have a contract. I guess I can try messaging them to see if they can unlock it for me.

What is Mint Mobile’s phone unlock policy?

When you purchase a phone directly from Mint Mobile, it’s locked to our network. This means it won’t accept SIM cards from any other carriers and you can’t use it on another wireless carrier’s network until it is unlocked.

Per our current policy, Mint Mobile phones will automatically be unlocked 60 days after activation on our network.

There are certain requirements your phone must meet to qualify for unlocking, mainly to protect yourself and us from any fraudulent activity. The 60 day timeline also does not apply to deployed military personnel. We recommend you check out our full Device Unlock Policy page for details.

You can check to see if your device is eligible or submit an unlock request by calling customer care at (800) 683-7392. They’re available seven days a week, 5 am – 7 pm PT.

Thanks wizoatk, I just finished chatting with someone at Mint and they told me the same. Guess I need to wait 2 months to actually use this phone.

AnotherTechGuy just be aware that carrier unlocked and OEM unlocked are two different things. I don't know how Mint Mobile handles OEM unlocking (I would search the forums), but make sure it can be OEM unlocked before you wait two months and miss a return window.

While all carriers CAN enable OEM Unlock functionality of any pixel phone they sell, I know of no carrier, at least in the USA, that does. I would get email statement from Mint that they will enable OEM Unlocking function at the end of that time period. Something you can use as proof in case it's not actually the case. Be very specific that you are not asking about carrier unlocking but OEM Unlocking in the Developer Menu.
