I knew it won't live long after they decided to open it to the public, i.e. not only for Mullvad's customers.
They pay to Brave and Google per query volume, and those millions of them daily surely wasn't cheap.
Will stick to a private searx.space, more feature rich with more results, and not so annoying colors.

23Sha-ger that's the frustrating thing for me. I self-host searxng, and adding mullvad leta engines boosted my search results while also sidestepping some higher-quality engines that also track IP address. I will have to reevaluate my options again.

naibed I have something similar with SearXNG in Docker on a Raspberry Pi, which works a charm when it goes through a VPN service. I'm not sure if it can be more secure than that.

This really sucks. As a paying Mullvad customer I'd love to have kept using this :(
Now I don't know what I'll use instead. I've look at Kagi but don't feel like paying yet another subscription per month for a service I'll not use as much as I should.
Are Brave search or searx the only proper alternatives? I used searx in the past (not self-hosted) and had very mixed results.

GrapheneOS Would it be feasible to replace Leta with something else instead? Possibly Mojeek or Brave Search.
I really liked there was an integrated alternative to DDG.

I actually haven't heard of such feature of mullvad. In their final comment linked in thread starting post, they say vpn and a privacy respecting browser provide same privacy. I Is there any benefit of such thing as search proxy? i'm quite surprised how I missed being mullvad's user for few years.
