[Question] Pixel 10 vs Pixel 9 for this Black Friday? Or wait for the new OEM?

Hey everyone,

I'm planning to make the switch to GrapheneOS and could use your advice on hardware. With Black Friday coming up, I'm trying to decide between three options: Pixel 10 (New): Taking advantage of a sale to get the latest model, Pixel 9 (Used): Saving some money by getting a second-hand previous-gen model, which is still excellent or Wait for the new OEM Holding off to see what comes from the new hardware partnership that the GrapheneOS project announced.

I'm a standard user (social media, browsing, a few apps), but I have one clear priority: I really value a good camera.

My main hesitation is about that third option. We know the Pixels have fantastic cameras (and the GrapheneCamera app works well). My concern with waiting for the new OEM device is that the camera might not be as good as a Pixel's.

Considering that the camera is important to me, do you think waiting is too high a risk? Or does the advantage of having "non-Google" hardware outweigh the potential hit in camera quality?

Nobody knows now. The Pixel 10 is still not supported.
I bought a Pixel 9 recently and it works fine.

FruzenSuricato buy p9 Pro (!16GB), pilot your GOS experience, meanwhile something may become more clear re p10+GOS.

"Move to GOS" is kinda iterative experience. If you're up to privacy - you need to play with new tools replacing non-private ones (be it weather, commute, etc) or banking, finalizing the setup. So after a time, you will understand how things have to be set up for your needs, and then you can move to a clean "identity" on a new phone if you decide to continue with GOS. It will also save you some $

I don't think there is reason to wait. Pick between Pixel 9 or 10.
Personally I picked 9 pro when I saw how bad battery is on Pixel 10 and upgrades are very small.

Pixel 9 runs grapheneos today and has a great camera. Get it. If you want to switch to a different phone later, you can do that.

If you have the money, P9 Pro is imo a very good phone

So for my first graphene OS build I used the pixel 5 worked great. I went with the pixel 10 since it was on sale, I am more or less just playing the waiting game at this point. I agree with the other posters. Pixel 9 for now just to get into a more secure phone environment :)

I've the feeling that a little bit more ram would be nice on GOS (but still love my P8 too much), so I would more go for the pro models if I were you, doesn't matter so much if P9 or P10 as imho GOS said P10 will come.
