This seems so silly to be so tore up over.
I really hate big tech. I set out on a journey to rid it from my life first part of this year. I got a kobo and said bye to my kindle when they announced we could no longer own our books, signed up for proton services, got rid of my social media accounts, limited my time on my phone and didn't upgrade this year like I normally do bc why since I was trying to get away from it.
I stumbled upon Grapheneos a couple of months ago and fell down the black hole of research about better privacy/security on my devices. This lead to installing linux on all my laptops, ditching my tablet, and purchasing a pixel phone to test on.
Setting up graphene was a breeze and I absolutely felt like a weight lifted off my shoulders bc of the simplicity. It was bliss until I started running into a couple of important to me issues.
First was group chats. I'm on team "RCS just won't work". My kids play sports and I needed to have it for group chats about practice and games. I resolved to inserting my sim card back into my samsung each night to catch up on texts.
Then I couldn't get my galaxy watch to work. I rely on it because I'm a runner and I carry it instead of my phone in case I need to contact someone. I finally got it to somewhat work but the notifications were spotty and I had to grant google and samsung all kinds of permissions. I don't want them having any permissions. It doesn't help that I pay $10 for service on my watch and it isn't working properly.
Then the user profile setups have not been easy for me. I've had to reset 5 times trying to get the right configuration. I've went back and forth about using the aurora store, play store, main profile for foss apps, then secondary profile with everything else.
So now I'm back on my samsung trying to figure out my next move. Do I give up on RCS and my galaxy watch? Do I give up on graphene? What is my next move? What do I care about most?
tldr: Can't decide what is important to me to help me make the switch to graphene.
