Phone and Messaging Apps on Pixel Tablet under GOS?

I understand that it is possible to install Signal on a secondary device such as a laptop or iPad, the secondary device being able to send and receive messages but not make calls. I though the same would be true for a Pixel tablet, but it seems Signal insists on making the table the primary device, meaning that I would no longer be able to make or receive Signal calls on my Pixel phone.

Is there a way around this?

I use Molly (a Signal fork available on Accrescent) on my Pixel 8 (GOS) and on my Pixel Tablet (GOS), and Signal on my laptop (Linux Mint). Works like a charm.
