And certainly consider Vanadium first!
Most "apps' are simply http/https programs with identity and other info. wired in. Trouble is they may be poorly written (w.r.t. security....certainly not as well written as Vanadium), and may earn $ for their authors by gathering/selling information about their users.
(FWIW, IMHO the number 1 consideration for security and privacy using GOS is minimalism regarding "apps".)
