A news story was published recently where a guy decided to target people in a train station with what is essentially a portable mobile phone tower which exploits vulnerabilities in 2G networks to send SMS which bypasses the actual mobile networks.
This is a reminder to enable the 2g protection if you are able to go without 2g, and benefit from reduced attack surface. Only Pixels 6th gen and newer can do this, you'll find the setting in Settings -> Network and Internet -> SIMs -> (Your SIM) -> 2G network protection (scroll to the bottom).
