Tlhokaina With fascism creeping the globe, the threat model facing those of us who are resisting has increased significantly.
I'd appreciate it if we could keep politics out of this forum entirely. One could make the argument that the communists are creeping into our lives equally as bad.
Tlhokaina Now would be an optimal time to move to a Linux/Qubes type of OS -
Regular (desktop) Linux has bad security - and therefore privacy. You would be better off on a hardened macOS system.
Tlhokaina one that spoofs the IMEI when necessary
Spoofing your IMEI will make your device stick out like a sore thumb.
Tlhokaina can communicate P2P to validate/expose Stingray requests.
Stingrays are pretty useless nowadays, now that we've moved on to encrypted communications by default. Use Signal, that will be the best option.
Tlhokaina An OS where a profile/VM can be ticked as "Sensitive" and subsequently deleted upon entering the 'duress' PIN.
We already have that for the whole phone. Implementing this for single profiles isn't really possible without leaving traces, so forensics would reveal the existence of a secret profile. This would only fool low-competence adversaries.
Tlhokaina We've entered a dangerous time in world history.
You are mistaken if you believe that we have just entered dangerous times. We have been living in dangerous times for decades now. If you're referring to the digital world, I would argue it was way worse a good 10 years ago than it is today. TLS wasn't even a standard for websites back then, now you will find encryption mostly everywhere.
Tlhokaina A de-Googled phone just isn't sufficient any longer.
I still to this day don't understand what "de-googled" really means. There is no clear cut definition of this term, so everyone understands something different when talking about "de-googling". I believe only very few projects took this term literally; most others relied on some implementation of Play Services - be it sandboxed in GOS or the countless forks with microG instances, which were far worse and the exact opposite of de-googling.
