Do launchers suffer from the same modern Android issues as they do on stock?

I was hoping to get something like Lawnchair or Nova since the padding on the default GOS home screen is really intense. My icons are well out of reach of my short thumbs. But it's causing the same animation hitching that it does on stock android.

I was curious if there was a solution to this in GOS since it's more customized. Is there a way around it?

Of course you can use Lawnchair or Nova on GOS. Development of Nova has stopped so that may not be the best choice.
