My threat model is low as in im not cooked if my info gets leaked. I really value privacy from companies that have perverted incentives on my data or don’t securely protect it. One more random factor is I don’t like google morally especially with their involvement with Isreal but idk how evil apple is on this front. It may be that Apple does just as morally weird shit as google but just don’t know.

I’m willing to wait out 3-5 months of straight up android if need be, but I want to know if I should even do that. GrapheneOS follows my philosophy much closer then IOS, but worried if I could even get it on the latest pixel 10 pro.

I won’t be getting the pixel 9 because it would be more expensive for my father since the carrier he wants to switch to has no trade in deals with the older phones. I’m not paying for it regardless, but I am not wasting someone else’s money if I don’t need to. To add on, with the 17 pro I would need to trade in my current iPhone 13 Pro, and with the google pixel 10 pro it would be free without trade in. My phone’s jailbroken on iOS 16.4.1 (Ik security not good, but I value privacy mainly) and I would want to keep my jailbroken features. If grapheneOS is comparable to a jailbreak that would be wonderful to know. Thank you for anyone who reads this, I posted this on Reddit first and saw the auto mod about the forum. Graphiteidklol so remember graphene is more a security is then private. That's said, there is no time frame when pixel 10 will get support. Dependjng on the carrier and if your phone is financed the boot loader will be locked until the device is fully paid off.

This is a false statement, stemming from the fact that people often confuse privacy with anonymity. Privacy means that you're chatting through Signal, which is installed on GOS. Someone can track your conversation, for example, by monitoring your connections to the Signal server, but your conversation is private because it's encrypted. GOS strongly protects privacy, and privacy cannot be protected without security. Anonymity means that it's impossible to tell that you were the one who has the conversation. Many people recommend Tor Browser for anonymity, but this browser is not secure, so the basic condition for both privacy and anonymity is broken.

FirePenny This is clearly not the case, and security and privacy should not be contrasted or separated in practical matters. Using an insecure smartphone directly undermines privacy, as vulnerabilities can be exploited to gain access to personal data and bypass privacy measures.

@Graphiteidklol @FirePenny GrapheneOS is a privacy first OS. The team has said as much. It's very difficult (nigh impossible) to have privacy without good security. Rooting/jailbreaking practically removes much of the security you had and is therefore not recommended for anyone seeking privacy.

GrouchyGrape If no one is actively trying to crack into my phone, the hardware security matters less no? Not saying it doesnt matter, but to someone who has crucial stuff sorted on device, security will matter a lot more. I understand if someone got my phone and put a cable in it I’m cooked, but I care more about the company who don’t even gotta put a cable in it. Why? Cause I don’t have a high likelyhood of receiving a personal attack, but am always getting tracked by advertisers no matter what I do. One of the features specifically, to customize permissions per app, is a feature that sounds very private to me. This type of feature to be able to control who has the opportunity to see my data is more attractive to me then having the strongest lock over my data.

This is only the case when you finance your phone with your carrier under a contract. Otherwise, if you do not have a contract with your carrier and only a sim card, then you should be able to unlock the bootloader (there are exceptions though, mainly Verizon)

This feels like a dumb question because if it was possible someone would’ve said it but anyway. Is there any official or unofficial way to unlock the boot loader without fully paying off the phone?
