Google Play Store App - doesn't work - says I don't have network connection?

I gave it network permissions, uninstalled and reinstalled, tried different wifi networks, confirmed internet works with browser...

Google Play Store App still not working, saying:

"You don't have a network connection"

Any tips on how to fix this?

(Just installed GrapheneOS, it's a new install)

samuelella keep in mind that Play Services also needs to have network permission enabled. Restart your phone after granting permissions to both apps.

samuelella I typically install apps through a VPN connection to Tor, which can be slow. When it's particularly slow, Google Play complains about lack of a network, when, I think, it's actually just timing out.

If it doesn’t work, would downloading the APK from a trusted site and installing it be a better alternative?

I did it with the app I’m trying to install, but when I open the app, it just takes me to a page and says “download the latest version” and then takes me to the Google play store.

(I had downloaded the latest version from the most popular APK website, I think APKMirror is what it was called)

samuelella you probably downloaded the wrong version, or the app doesn't work when sideloaded or it doesn't work if you're not logged into Google Play. There are also multiple versions of the same app uploaded to apkmirror, apkpure and so on that need to match the device. Some of which even come as an APK Bundle, meaning that they can't be sideloaded.

Your best bet, if Play Store doesn't work, is to use Aurora Store. That's most likely still better and safer than fishing around for the proper version on some random website.

Hi Guys,

I am a new GrapheneOS user and just installed it on a new Google Pixel 9A. I have the same error from the google play store and it will not work. I'm not sure why. To use the google play store on Graphene, do I have to grant it all permissions including location on my phone? I would prefer not to do this (it is one of the reasons I installed GrapheneOS, because I don't want google to have all my information in order to use a google phone), but I do need to be able to download a few google apps, such as gmail, for the time being. Any advice is appreciated.

NapoleonPhoneApart If the Google Play Store app says it doesn't have a network connection, it is fairly likely that something is wrong with the network. For example, if a VPN is in use, try disabling it or using a different server; if custom DNS is enabled, try disabling it; if an ad blocker is in use, try disabling it. If the problem happens on just one network (e.g., a home network), try a different network.
