Obsidian consistently slow loading

I switched to a pixel 9a after my Samsung galaxy s23 died. Which finally allows me to switch to the goodness of grapheneos!

However, I'm having consistently slow loading of the vault that I didn't experience on my Samsung.

Obsidian start-up time breakdown

Operating system: android 16 (Google Pixel 9a)
Obsidian version: 1.9.14 (242)
API version: v1.9.14

- Total startup time: 69,334ms
- Initialization: 355ms
- Vault (26,377 files): 67,699ms
- Workspace (16 tabs, 15 deferred): 1,105ms
- Core plugins: 175ms

I've tried several things:

disabled exploit protection to try compatibility mode
allowed unrestricted battery usage
disabled secure app spawning
disabled many obsidian core plugins and all 3p plugins

My vault is in the Documents folder.

Anyone else experiencing this with obsidian? Any other tips to troubleshoot or optimize?

core24 my vaults aren't nearly as big as yours, but I can say I've never had an issue with load times. Are the vault files synced some way? If so, how? Do you experience the load delay every time you open the app?

Keep in mind the CPU of the s23 is a bit faster than that of your 9a so there likely will be some difference, though probably not huge.

Yes. Every time i load the app I have to endure this.

core24 I would test creating a new vault with just a couple thousand of your files and check load times, incrementally adding files to see if your vault size is the issue.

A subset of the vault with 10k fewer files still loads slowly. The slow down is nonlinear, especially as the number of files increases.

Is there anything about grapheneos that could affect the performance?

Okay, I had a hunch that the slow performance could be due to use of shared storage in the Documents folder. I think the data confirms that.

I created the same vault again but used internal storage. The numbers are night and day faster.

Shared storage

4058 files - 5496 ms

Private storage

3989 files - 544 ms

It's an order of magnitude faster. And it has been consistently fast.

1173 - 618ms
1965 - 406ms

Any known issue that could account for this performance difference?

core24 Interesting! Is it specifically in the Documents folder, or is it the difference between Device storage and App storage - the choice you get when creating the vault? I know it suggests putting new vaults in Documents when creating a new one in Device Storage
