Problems with restoring pixel 6a backup on new 8a

I successfully installed GOS on the new Pixel 8a and wanted to use a backup from the old Pixel 6a to automatically transfer all apps and settings to the new device.
The first attempt worked right away. Unfortunately, there was a crucial error: in the German version, there is a misleading label for selecting the desired apps for the backup.
Instead of "Include apps," it says "Exclude apps."
I selected the apps I wanted to exclude. Unfortunately, only these were included in the restore on the new device.
I understood the problem and started a new attempt. Unfortunately, the backups were not completed at first. I don't know why, maybe due to lack of storage space.
After half a dozen failed attempts, I managed to complete a full backup with a new backup key.
I copied the backup directory to my PC and then from there to Pixel 8a.
Unfortunately, the restore does not work, mainly because the backup key is incorrect as it is said in a red message.
Now I am at my wit's end and need your help.
How can I succeed?

It's not a mistranslation. "Exclude apps" is the way that Seedvault chooses to present this option to the user in the original English text. It confused me the first time I used it as well.

Little update: I tried backup via external storage - without success. It freezes always at the same point: "Media selection".

Another update:
I did a reset to start from scratch. Finally, it worked by copying the backup on the Pixel 6a to an external USB storage device and then connecting it to the Pixel 8a.
Phew—that was five exhausting hours of experimentation. Basically, it was all because of the incorrect translation on the German interface (see above).
