Struggling with installation

I just took delivery of my new Pixel 9a to replace my old 6a. I have successfully enabled OEM unlocking. I boot into the bootloader interface, the device state reads 'locked (unlockable). Then I connect it to my 6a and press to unlock the bootloader. Each time I get a message saying

'https://grapheneos.org wants to connect. No compatible devices found'

I have tried the cable that came with my new phone and my existing cable with the same result. I am using Vanadium, not in incognito mode.

I have a Pixel tablet which I have not tried because I cannot work out how to disable desktop mode which I understand is necessary for the installation process.

Can anyone offer any insight into what I might be doing wrong?

Okay, so I searched how to switch off desktop mode and now I have successfully connected my new phone to my tablet. I don't know why it wouldn't connect to my 6a but now it seems to be progressing as it should. Hopefully all is fine now

When flashing the OS to my new phone I had to reconnect the phone a few times when it failed to get started but in the end it installed and is now up and running. It may have been the cable or that I was working on my lap rather than on a desk. Anyway, it's up and running now.

I had quite a shock when I started up the new phone with the stock Google OS on it to unlock the bootloader. So gaudy, wildly colorful, flashy and UGLY. Too much going on, and virtually none of it under the control of the phone's owner. It's such a relief to have the far less visually noisy GrapheneOS on with my minimal suite of apps and nothing else. It does what I want and I feel like I'm in control of it rather than the other way around.
