Hi,
I was recently obtaining all my third party apps via Obtainium or Aurora Store and I was happy. Recently I figured out that in order to be able to use some apps in Android Auto, they need to be installed via Google Play Store and this to my knowledge can't be spoofed via adb/shizuku. The app still doesn't show up in Android Auto even when spoofed. I checked.
I would like to use some apps in Android Auto. I was willing to give up some of my privacy and created a throwaway account with a fake telephone number and through a VPN... and logged into the Playstore with it. I installed the apps which I wanted to use in Android Auto (e.g. Symfonium and Jellyfin support Android Auto), logged out of Playstore and removed the Google account.
This worked. The apps showed up in Android Auto.
Now the challenge is how do I keep the apps installed via Play Store up to date without being logged in into Play Store at all or even better via Aurora Store? I could install a newer version of Jellyfin via Aurora Store. App Details now states that it was installed via Aurora Store, but I can still use it in Android Auto.
Unfortunately this doesn't work with all apps. Some apps can only be updated by the original installation origin... at least so it seems. This probably depends on the APK and the signatures.
So for those apps, I need to get the updates via Play Store. Is therea way to get them without beeing constantly signed in?
When you open Play store and you aren't logged in, then it looks like it could be possible to update the apps via Play Store as seen in the pictures, but it always states that there are no available updates. Is there a permission which needs to be enabled in order for this to work? I just want updates. It's okay for me to login ibto my throwaway account in orser to install apps, but for updates I don't want to be signed i to Google Play Store all the time.
I logged in into Play Store and checked for any updates. Jellyfin released a new version. I then logged out of Playstore and checked again if it would at least show me that there is a new version available, but it didn't.
I don't mind to be logged into Play Store all the time, but I don't want to be automatically logged in into Google Apps like Google Maps. This can only be prevented with App Communication Scopes, which is a feature under development.
