Hi, bought a pixel online from ebay. and bootloader is locked.

so, just bought a pixel 7, looks amazing. was factory reset, sim was unlocked, all is well in the world.

yet when i setup the phone, like a paranoid schizophrenic, i dont connect the phone to any wifi, or make/link acc because i check to see if the one is even working lol.

did that, did another factory reset.

now i start to follow the process of putting graphene os on my pixel 7. im planning on using the web usb installer. following along, and i find that the oem unlocking setting is completley greyed out, and unable to be toggled. I check on fastboot, and there it says in green letters "device state: locked".

i lookup solutions, and im basically fucked. i cant unlock the bootloader without setting the "get_unlock_ability" from 0 to 1.

Next, go to Settings > System > Developer options and toggle on the OEM unlocking setting. On device model variants (SKUs) which support being sold as locked devices by carriers, enabling OEM unlocking requires internet access so that the stock OS can check if the device was sold as locked by a carrier.

If you're a paranoid schizophrenic, go to some place with public wifi with your anti-virus mask on and without your primary phone and connect to the public wifi there ;-)

It needs to connect to google servers to check if it is allowed to be unlocked. If you're paranoid, factory reset it again on a remote location and connect to a public WiFi. When the toggle is enabled you can put it in airplane mode again and flash it anywhere you want without being tracked by google.

unfortunately, i just woke up after sleeping, i left it connected to the internet and the oem unlocking option in developer settings is still greyed out. so should i just reset it again? the person i bought the phone from refurbished, said the bootloader is locked. idfk what to do.

Then what did you expect, a magic to happen? :)
Swap it with a person within your area with Pixel 6/6a/7a using stock OS but not carrier locked.
That's a win-win, they get a better phone, you get GOS.

So you made your assumptions based on some video?
Good luck. If that was so easy, locked phones would not go at
50% of retail value after a year. Also, don't mix between carrier lock and bootloader lock. Carrier lock is one thing, bootloader lock makes it basically a brick for flashing GOS.

23Sha-ger no i did not make my assumptions on that video. i was deciding between a sony xperia and lineage os or gos. i chose gos, for the privacy. and i assumed that the phones on ebay, when said "UNLOCKED" meant both the bootloder, and the carrier, thank you for the advice everyone, i will probably return the phone, and buy another that has the bootloader unlocked. thank you!!!
