High battery drain, slow performance and hot device

Hi,

I noticed recently that my Pixel 7 drains a lot of battery, gets very hot during charging, so that it slows down charging and is often very slow.

How can I verify if a rootkit/trojan like Pegasus has been installed?

Amnesty International released an open-source utility called Mobile Verification Toolkit that's designed to detect traces of Pegasus. The software runs on a personal computer and analyzes data including backup files exported from an iPhone or Android phone.[46][47]

Boon0815 It's almost certainly due to your apps and configuration. That's what you're going to need to solve. This is not a sign of a compromised device.

Start with: Settings > Battery > Battery Usage (view by apps or systems)

There are a number of battery apps on play store, I haven't used any of them.

Same here, also Pixel 7, no change in configuration / apps in at least half a year.
Yesterday it died on me while I was out n about, which surprised me since I had barely used it, apart from google maps, but I just thought 'maybe I had left maps running in the background all day and thats what drained it'.

Today I was home all day and I have 13 mins of screen time (as per settings) and it's at 13% right now.
It's 18:30 and I unplugged it around 9 today.
It was charged to 100% over night, as always and there is no reason it should be this low.

2 days ago (the night before yesterday) it did an update overnight.
This is, without a doubt coming from the update.
I have never had the battery drain this fast even under active use.

I pulled logs, just not sure where to post them.

s3r3n3ty a lot of pixel 7's are affected by a battery hardware defect. You can check if your device qualifies for the free replacement on the Google website. Mine did not so I just had a cell phone repair shop replace it

No even apps update? I can't believe it...
It can be a buggy app update causing that.

s3r3n3ty It's due to your apps and network. If you have more active apps than sandboxed Google Play services, then you can expect higher battery usage from the additional active apps. Using things like Signal's inefficient WebSocket-based push instead of FCM or UnifiedPush has a battery life cost.

@arteries2234 No, that's only the Pixel 6a and none of the other supported devices.

Yea that all makes perfect sense, however, as stated already, I have had NO change in configuration and no app updates (nothing apart from the system itself updates without my confirmation).
The ONLY change was a system update and since then the battery drain is extreme.

My phone would usually be around ~ 40-50% after a day of regular use, but after the system update, it died around 16:00 with low - moderate use and the day after it died around 19:00, after just 13 minutes of screen time, while being at home, on WiFi, with nothing running in the background.

This is unprecedented behaviour, with the only change being the system update.

I am experiencing the same issues recently on pixel 8. High battery drain, lots of heat with minimaal usage. Using apps like vanadium or apps that use gps like maps make the phone hot and drain battery very fast. This is now much worse then it used to be.

Bramphilips wouldn't hurt to send a screenshot of battery usage for apps and systems so we have a better idea what to tell you
