Given my druthers, I would rather other people used Signal, or even Matrix or XMPP. Where that's not possible or feasible, I'd rather use RCS than SMS or WhatsApp. RCS is a lesser evil in the messaging space.

Is there any update to these issues? I'm concerned that I'm going to lose all my RCS chats here soon, since it's been nearly 30 days, when Google Messages says it'll delete my RCS chats.

bradenbiz This release from a few days ago provided official support for Google Messages. See the release notes. The remaining issues a subset of users are having with it appear to be carrier specific and are being worked on. Nothing else has been implemented yet. No contributors have stepped up to help with implementing it.

Having the same issue with the Barclaycard app.

It might make sense to reinstall the previous version to narrow down - it might be due to recent app update.

tired the app with google services but same result.
tired it on another phone which works fine so i have request barclays for change logs on the last update

userx04197321065 I didn't get a good answer from anyone including devs but I believe the answer seems to be no, you don't need to grant that anymore as of a couple GOS updates ago.

Sorry was on a business trip with limited connectivity.

I tried to install version 2.71.0 (6710) and it worked. This means their latest version requires attestation or something similar and won't work unless they lift the restrictions. Starling bank did but Lloyd's didn't. I won't hold my breath on Barclays, this old version works for now but will stop working sooner or later as it will demand an update...

You can download it from Aurora store by opening Barclaycard app, tapping the 3 dots in the top right corner, then selecting "manual download" and entering 6710.

Don't forget to uninstall the existing version first otherwise it won't install. Once installed, blacklist the app in Aurora store so it won't attempt to update it.

Do you have any feedback from Barclays by a chance?

I'm also having issues enabling RCS, even with doing the steps provided. This seems to affect a lot of T-Mobile users, which I am apart of. Do you need us to send more logs to see what's going on?

Can confirm - am a T-Mobile user and have done the steps provided. The closest the RCS process gets is 'Connecting...' and it eventually times itself out.

GrapheneOS Optimizing apps process is visible with notification and that also says when it's complete. It takes some time but what I am talking about lasts for couple of days. Like full charge, discharge, another full charge. I don't believe an app can ever detect the update and have a special behaviour about it. The network is always the same my home wifi and it's the 3rd or 4th update like this. Before, during first months of my GrapheneOS use, there was nothing like this.
It was not an intermittent glitch. The phone spent the whole day and night on the wireless charger in the same place as usual, on the same usual wifi network and was charging and discharging at the same time as I described. I have to put it on a wired charger, charge completely, and now it charges as usual on the wireless and the battery lasts for almost 2 days, while during the events I have described it got to 20% in half a day.

I just wanted to add to this. I already had RCS working prior to Google recently breaking it. Even when it broke, my RCS status has always shown "connected," but all RCS attempts fail back to SMS. Even now after the recent update, I can turn RCS off and back on again and it still shows as connected, but always fails back to SMS. So it's not just an issue for those who aren't able to connect, it's also an issue for at least some who show as already connected. Happy to provide any additional detail necessary.

As of today, my RCS status says "Trouble connecting. Awaiting retry..." When I click the Details link, it tells me the status code is 3000 with the details stating "please wait, activation is ongoing." So at least now my settings are reflecting the fact that this is actually broken, but I still don't know what I can do to fix it.

I am still unable to use RCS. I used RCS with no issues until a few weeks ago. I was hoping this new update would make it work again, but no such luck. I am on Verizon, and the current message is that my phone doesn't meet security requirements.

underhand Try upgrading to 2025100900; I do not own a smartphone, just a Pixel Tablet, but have read there are more RCS-related fixes.

underhand You need the latest release (2025100900) which fixes another issue impacting many people for Google Messages RCS.

Whatever backend changes were made seemed to have the nice side effect of enabling some Google Dialer features.

Only thing that still doesn't seem to work is T-Mobile's visual voicemail.

This likely won't ever be able to work in Google Dialer. The specific T-Mobile visual voicemail API used by Google Dialer requires 3GPP-GBA authentication via the SIM card. Android only allows this for privileged system apps or for unprivileged apps that the carrier explicitly permits (usually their own app).

(Source: I reverse engineered T-Mobile's VVM protocol used in Google Dialer last year.)
