chinook In February 2025 GOS could not be compromised but since then, Google has released a lot of security patches allowing increases in privileges. But to say that /e/OS is not updated since the latest security patch is the same as GrapheneOS, hence my question, is the latest GOS update only an update of open source components?

okay, now you are talking out of your ass. /e/OS is on 1. September patch level, as seen here https://gitlab.e.foundation/e/os/releases/-/releases

GrapheneOS already includes the 2025-10-01 patch level, with optional security patches for November and December: https://grapheneos.org/releases#release-announcements.

/e/OS is an insecure OS that lacks basic security and privacy features and wouldn't be as secure as GrapheneOS even if they were on the same patch level.

It has been explained numerous times that /e/OS is garbage and you'll find a dozen posts on this topic in this forum alone.

n3t_admin Note that /e/ is not actually on the September 1st patch level. They set a fake patch level falsely claiming to provide it despite not having the required patches on potentially even a single device. They certainly don't have the current patches on Pixels which would require being on Android 16. They still have some Pixels on Android 13 with 2 years of missing privacy/security patches for the kernel, drivers, firmware and other device components. Their claim to have the September 1 patch level across devices is based on applying the AOSP subset of the bulletins without having the rest of the patches required to claim it. In reality, 2025-09-01 requires having 2025-08-05 and all previous patch levels which they do not have. They're misleading users.

Thank you for the extra lenght you went through regarding the security updates!
2025092500 is working well on my P6a, P7, Pixel Tablet and P9Pxl.
I have not tested cellular and don't have Play Services installed on any of my devices.

2025092501 has been installed properly on these devices and is working fine.

I opted into the security preview releases on my Pixel 9a, and so far I haven’t had any issues. It immediately installed an update after I enabled it, and everything seems to be working as expected.

I'm on Pixel 9 Pro. This 2025092500 update installed just fine when I had Alpha release chosen. I then enabled the security previews and its trying to install another update but it seems to be stuck on "Finalizing system update" without making any progress. I'm not sure how long it may normally hang at this step.

eatinggrumble84 Finalizing system update can take a long time since it's based on how many apps you have installed. It has to recompile the apps you have installed.

GrapheneOS Ah, that makes sense. I hadn’t really thought about it before, but now I see why finalizing updates takes longer on my device.
