Need guidance on purchasing a Google pixel

I've decided to embrace the route of privacy, and a GrapheneOS mobile phone is next on my list.

I'd like to understand:

If I buy from the Google Store, am I 100% guaranteed that the phone will allow me to unlock the bootloader, meaning the OEM Unlocking option will be toggleable?
If I buy a second-hand device, is it sufficient for the device to be carrier unlocked?

In some countries the Google store offers carrier-locked phones and unlocked phones, but they are clearly labelled.

No. Some sellers will describe OEM-unlockable devices as "factory unlocked", but it's hard to be sure. If buying used, the return policy matters.

hush I purchased my Pixel 6 Pro back in August of 2023 from https://www.ebay.com/str/thegizmotrader I followed their inventory for a couple weeks and found the details listed for their items very helpful .

They clearly indicate the carrier the phone will work with and whether it is "Network Unlocked" (meaning carrier unlocked) of if it is "Factory Unlocked" (meaning OEM unlocked). You'll want factory/oem unlocked.

They have several high resolution pictures of each Pixel and all from the same angels for comparison. Prices seem reasonable and I received it quickly. I'm very happy with the phone I purchased and with GOS.

I would not buy one with GOS installed. The GOS installation guide is very detailed and easy to follow.

Since I have just been through this, I'll answer. Anyone correct me if I'm wrong

Your best bet would be to buy directly from Google store as it will be bootloader and carrier unlocked

Carrier unlocked is not the same as bootloader unlocked so you could buy a carrier unlocked pixel but it's not able to unlock the bootloader

I would only buy second hand if I could see the device in my hands to confirm you can toggle the unlock and that it's not greyed out before you buy it, otherwise I'd buy from Google store to be sure

P.s. I bought direct from Google to be sure

Amazon or Best Buy are two reliable locations. I would ask to verify, FACTORY OEM unlocked, not carrier unlocked.

B4 I bought mine a month ago I also looked at reviews, one buyer actually mentioned they bought it & installed GrapheneOS !
