I rarely use mobile data, but sometimes I need it.
I purchased a prepaid top-up mobile data plan and then activated the plan.
Right away, I received a MMS message that seemed suspicious. It was something I could click to download. I neither downloaded or deleted it, since I'm wondering if it should be kept as to analyze. It could just be spam but it felt strange to me.
Since then my data has been very slow. I use LTE only because I prefer cell towers to know a more vague location instead of precise location.
I have seen much faster speeds with LTE before. I currently get up to 1Mbit/s but I was able to get higher speeds previously. Is this normal for LTE or should LTE be capable of more? I have a decent plan capable of 5G data.
I am also being throttled in a strange way. When I connect to my VPN and then try to use Tor, I can connect to a Tor node but after that I can't load anything. So if I do a search, nothing shows up.
If I connect to the VPN using obfuscation, which is much slower, I can open Tor browser and then do a search. What concerns me isn't that simple mobile is blocking my VPN, what concerns me is that this could be an indication of a man in the middle attack on the VPN. I have no other explanation.
My current problem is my speed is too slow. Enabling 5G is not preferred.
Is what I am experiencing expected speeds? Is this normal for using a cell data plan?
