Tablet Recommendations/Hardening

Hi everyone,

I'm looking to purchase a tablet in the near future. Workload for the tablet is mostly light (portable reading/docs/travel media)

Background: while a Pixel Tablet running GOS would be my first choice, in my country (Oceania region), Pixel Tablets are extremely expensive in comparison to competing models, most with far superior specs to a PT. If Google ever release the Tablet 2, maybe this would change, but for now it's not entirely viable unless one magically appears on Ebay/Marketplace for a sufficient price.

With that in mind, has anyone found any joy other Android tablets?

Android is my preference, but I'd be happy with a refurbished iOS tablet as a last resort if nothing suitable is available.

Search this forum for threads containing "Pixel tablet", and you'll find several discussions. I think the general view us that if the Pixel Tablet isn't right for you, then an iPad is the next most private. Privacy of other options is much worse.

A friend of mine has a Huawei tablet which won't allow him to install the NY Times app.

I just bought two 256GB Pixel Tablets on Amazon for €399 each.

Sadly the promotion is no longer available.

I installed GOS on the tablets and I'm delighted with them. I take it with me everywhere and it's the perfect replacement for a PC for browsing and emails. I installed Onlyoffice and bought a small physical keyboard for taking notes during training sessions.

All this to say that I would never choose a mobile device that can't run GOS. The Pixel tablet is still perfectly capable of running multiple applications in multitasking mode without slowing down.

I just hope that Google will support this tablet for another year or two to make up for not introducing a new product.

I also have GOS on a Pixel Tablet and it's pretty much perfect for that form factor. It's actually so good that I really wish I could use it as a lightweight PC replacement- especially once the linux terminal and desktop mode are fully ready. Unfortunately the device doesn't support video output over USB-C, and that will be a major limitation soon. I'd probably hold off because of that, assuming we'll actually get a second pixel tablet
