Here I"m more interested in app installation nuances.

eg.

1) If push to 2nd profile, does app take up twice the storage? -

2) A previous answer to above said no (although chatgpt said yes). If no, what happens to 2nd profile app if owner app is deleted? I tried deleting owner app, and a copy still stayed in 2nd profile (suggesting there are 2 copies at one point?)

3) A if (1) is no, how do we update app on 2nd profile? (chatgpt said both profiles disconnected so have to update on each separately)

4) If (3) = update separately on 2nd profile, I don't understand benefit of pushing to 2nd profile, rather than just

Yes, though how much storage depends on if you're only using the app in one profile there will be more storage consumed than on the profile where you do not use that app.

Deleting the app in the Owner profile won't effect the 2nd profile.

How are you installing apps? (Google Play Store, Aurora, Accrescent, F-droid, Obtanium, manually by apk)

If you have the app store only installed in the owner profile, but the app on the 2nd profile, then you can only install the update from the Owner profile.

Because there is no benefit to do it that way.

userofgos thanks for the responses. what is the benefit of of pushing apps to 2nd profile over just installing on 2nd profile (as we would need to update separately anyway, whether using obtainium or any other process/appstore).

From that article, you see the following, which would be my suggestion to you. Just use Owner for everything, then decide what you want to separate and what you want to keep together. I use Owner for most things, but use Private Space for Banking and Social Media. I update apps separately in each profile, unless I have the same app in both profiles (since app updates apply system wide the same app across profiles)

One option that many never even consider is not using secondary user profiles at all. Using profiles can add some unnecessary annoyances for some people because of how notifications work or switching between profiles is annoying, or PINs / passwords are too long or annoying. Keep in mind that all apps are sandboxed, so for many threat models, profiles aren’t even necessary. So, for some users, a no profiles setup may actually be the best fit for them.

There is also the option to use the Private Space feature as an alternative to using a secondary user profile. This is a special type of profile nested under the owner profile. Apps in the Private Space and owner profile can be accessed simultaneously. Note that, currently, there’s a limit of one Private Space and it can only be in the owner profile.

Some users who tend to use profiles a lot like to set up their owner profile to push apps to other profiles. Some install Sandboxed Google Play in their owner profile, but not in other profiles so they can push apps to profiles where Sandboxed Google Play is not installed. And since GrapheneOS allows users to disable user installed apps, users can disable Google Play and Google Play Services when not in use.
