How do I halt/ disable system updates completely until I enable them again?

Of course it's not advised to do this. You should keep you device up to date.

other8026 if it is disabled, can updates still be manually installed by settings > system > system updates > check for updates, or would no updates be possible? Just curious :)

nandohyphen1 I haven't tried it, but I think if it's disabled the "system updates" option just won't show up. I could be wrong, though.

If the app is disabled, no "System updates" entry appears in "System".

My phone started to update to the latest release a few mins ago, but I don't have a reliable WiFi/data connection this evening (and through the night today) so it keeps failing. I set the update to only update when charging (because I'm not charging my phone tonight). Should this pause the update until morning (or until I plug in my phone/ disable updates only when charging) when I can get a reliable connection and do the update? Thanks.

nandohyphen1 Though I have not run experiments, I would not particularly expect that changing the requirements for starting an update would stop an update once one has already been started.

Changing the requirements and rebooting seems more likely to have an effect.

de0u it seems to have paused it. It hasn't tried updating since switching it over to only update while charging (which its not charging). I'll switch off update only when charging tomorrow morning and resume the update. I can report back in case this helps someone in the future who wants to temporarily disable updates without completely disabling the system app.

For anybody that wants to know, turning on only update when charging paused the update for the night since I didn't charge my phone. I turned it off this morning and I have a better internet connection so my 6a has updated. So if you need to pause an update for some reason, this way works without disabling the system app. (And as long as you don't charge your phone) :)
