Concerns about Play Services

I'm uninformed on this topic so please forgive me if this post seems dumb. But I've installed sandboxed Gplay Services so I can get android auto, still debating if its worth it or not. But my main question is, does gplay services always run in the background? (I have background running disabled but get the notification still that its running) And what are the concerns with security? Can it still be as invasive as it was? When it accesses "Network" does it still map my LAN? Should I be worried? Is it worth it?

Sandboxes google play services runs as a standard user installed application, its permissions can be changed and the app itself can be disabled like any other app.

Google services is otherwise unmodified

If you want you can install it on a separate user profile

If I grant it only Network and Sensors for android auto do I need to worry about it mapping my LANs and sending location data and things like that? I've got it set to not run in the background but i still get the notification that its running in the background
