Home Wifi disconnects after several hours - no reconnect possible without reboot

Hi everyone,

I have a Pixel 8 connecting to my home wifi just fine. Everything was working in this configuration without any issues until 2 updates ago.

Now the phone disconnects from the home wifi after several hours of successful usage (<24h) and is then not able to reconnect. "Connection error".
If I reboot the phone it directly connects successfully and this is the only way I found to make it work again.

The issue only exists with my home wifi, other wifis I am usally in do not show the problem.

Home Wifi:

Ubiquit U7 Pro
Wifi 7 incl. 6Ghz enabled (2,4 and 5Ghz available as well, does not change anything regarding the problem)
WPA-3 Enterprise with TLS user cert

flunkyball you forgot the most important part: what is running on the backend of the U7 Pro? That's just an AP without any brains, so to speak.

Also, is "randomize MAC" in the WiFi settings of the phone set to "per Network" (or even turned off)? It might even be that the DHCP leases run out and it fails to get a new one for some reason.

But it would be good to know which router/other hardware it's connected to.

True, did not mention the backend part ;)

It is a Univention linux server (debian based) serving as dhcp and radius server together with an LDAP.

On the phone "per network" is enabled. That specific MAC is mapped to a fixed IP adresse on the DHCP so the phone gets always the same IP. Thus it should be not a problem with having not enough free leases.

No other device on the network shows that issue. (e.g. 3 Laptops, 4 Samsung phones with stock OS ...)

flunkyball ah, so it's more of a homebrew solution. I was hoping it would be something more... commercial. That usually helps troubleshoot issues.
Okay, I guess DHCP is out of the question. I would assume it's got something to do with the RADIUS (FreeRADIUS I assume?) or LDAP parts. Have you skimmed through the logs, especially RADIUS? That might be helpful, since it seems like a backend issue to me.

It's not really a homebrew solution. Univention is a all-in-one solution which integrates LDAP, DHCP, Freeradius etc. UCS. Iam running this system for about 8 years now.

The standard logging did not show anything related to the connection problem. I will raise the log level and see if I can find out more.
What can I do on the grapheneos side ? For me it rather strange that a reboot of the device solves the problem for a couple of hours.

I know, it's just not something you would use as a home solution. At least I wouldn't.

I've heard that the logs provided by UCS are pretty limited, although I have no idea what that means exactly. Log level should be at the lowest, that's for sure.

Nothing really. I can only assume that the initial authentication or validation works and it fails after that for unknown reasons.

While were at it: do the Unifi logs tell you anything?

Sorry for the late feedback.

I was reviewing logs up and down.

However, since the last update (2025090800) which I installed 2 days ago the problem did not yet appear again. I keep you updated if that changes.
