Developing Apps Using GrapheneOS

Good day to you all,

I am interested in getting a job as an android developer and want to start creating a portfolio of apps on the google play store using grapheneOS but a great many jobs (90%+) require experience with many of googles technologies (like Firebase, google play services, jetpack etc), grapheneOS meets MEETS_BASIC_INTEGRITY which is not a problem.

1) I know i can just download the sandboxed version of google play services, but can the sandboxed version of google play cause issues with development compared to stock android?

2) Is it possible that i develop an app that runs fine on grapheneOS using these google technologies but on stock android it won't run properly?

3) other than play integrity, is there anything else i should be aware of that graphenOS hinders when it comes to developing apps?

Sorry guys if this is a loaded question, i just feel like I'm missing something important here and i want to be sure grapheneOS is a good option for testing the apps i develop on a real device or if stock firmware is recommended, i would appreciate any help greatly

PixelDrift42 It's great to hear that you are considering GrapheneOS as a primary development platform.

That said, I suspect that building a sizable user base would require testing on Google's stock OS and also at least Samsung's OS.

PixelDrift42 I never created an android app myself. But I'm pretty sure that if an app worked on Graphene it would work on other Android devices aswell. You would only need to install the sandboxed play servcies if your app would need it.

de0u yeah that's a good point, testing using stock makes sense because after all it's what the majority of people use, a damn shame though, when i reflash stock firmware it's going to feel disgusting haha

PixelDrift42 I successfully bought two used 6a's as test devices on eBay (large-volume seller, advertised as "factory unlocked"). It is true that GrapheneOS support for 6a's will end pretty soon (they are no longer recommended by the project), but Google's stock OS won't turn to dust right on the EOL date. Or you could look into used 7a's.

Momud I've never ran into any issues with apps either unless it was to do with play integrity, If thats the only difference between stock then i'll reflash grapheneOS. There isnt alot of info out there on this topic unfortunately
