W1zardK1ng I already checked and re-checked all possible options. No carrier offers to access incoming sms via web either. Additionally, I need those incoming comms to be extremely reliable and real-time.

Compartmentalizing is good, but I think the issue the GrapheneOS project has in the quoted post is people assuming that because you will only use a dumb phone for carrier services that you're not susceptible to security vulnerabilities, and is therefore secureand private in their minds, when that is in fact not true.

Dumb phones aren't private and generally aren't at all secure either due to lack of basic updates and protections.

Maybe with your threat model you're fine with your dumb phone being vulnerable to exploits due to lack of proper hardware security protections and firmware/software updates. Maybe you don't see that as a concern or a threat to your person. Whatever the case, the GrapheneOS project is combatting the narrative that "dumb phones are safer and more private"

I tried a dumb phone for a while, and it was a throbbing pain in the ass.

A very frustrating experience. The inability to use encrypted texting and calling was a deal breaker.

DeletedUser495 Using a GrapheneOS as an overpriced dumb phone has its merit but even then it won't protect you from most of the tracking from cellular networks and using such device completely offline (updates can be sideloaded) can also make sense but the same can be achieved using cheaper hardware.

Most dumbphones I saw where really overpriced for how less features they have

Thus. A graphene phone with its range of sensors like cameras, wifi, gps, etc is highly more insecure versus the dumbphone that can only be compromised for its mic...

A dumbphone also let's you remove the battery more easily.

i think that communication standards supported by typical dumbphone are neither secure nor private, if we're talking about some cheap 2g brick.

also some backdoors or malicious code might already be included in the device firmware and there is basically no way for end user to check it.

if user cannot mess with device, it doesn't mean that manufacturer couldn't. especially if it is some chinese noname.

btw, i'm not sure if modern smartphone is even comparable with a dumbphone, they have too different capabilities.
yup, smartphone could be used to make calls or send sms but it is actually more a computer than a simple phone.
and communication might be not even the main function of it.

Thus, my 2g brick they can only get mic access, with smartphones they can access so much more.

Then factor in sleep-state chips and ultra low batter y usage, bigger capacitors in smart phones, unremovable batteries...

My 2g brick I remove its 600mAh battery, I know confidently the device is off.

I'll keep my 15 year old 2g brick, with battery removed, and zero sensors, and apply power only when I need it

I known which device I inherently can trust, and which one has multiples more attack vectors and room for conpromise

The gigantic increase in attack vector possibilities on a smartphone(graphene or not) makes a 2g brick inherently more secure AND private.

A 2g brick doesn't have a GPS sensor for you to hack, no bluetooth to sniff, nor any browsers for any internet history to even exist.

x100 for all other sensors like NFC, Bluetooth, gyro, WiFi, Fingerprint, Magnetometer, proximity, barometer, sensors etc

You could theoretically Triangulate my 2g brick... Only when the battery is in the back... but as I change IMEI on each pwr up, u cant, Good luck 🤗 😇
