Hello GrapheneOS community - this is my first post - apologies if my issue has been discussed before, but I did some searching and could not find anything, so here it goes:
I finally had some time set aside to try and flash GOS on my used Pixel 8 Pro I bought awhile back. I never even got to flashing GOS. So here it goes....
I was running the latest version of ubuntu 24.04 I believe (I've since moved to Mint because of this whole debacle). I had recently installed some packages like lynis to test how hardened my system was, i also installed fail2ban, had nordvpn going on and off, and I think there was one other package or maybe just some lines of code i got from chatgpt for security that looked for shady world-writable files and changed them.
Long story short - when connecting my P8P , I tried using fastboot and adb - fastboot would list my P8P's serial number but considered it an "Integrated Webcam" while adb would not recognize my device. I had OEM unlocked, USB debugging enabled, and the usb connectivity to "file transfer mode". It took awhile to get there because the phone was in accessibility on start up, but i got there. AS well as I updated to android 16 I believe, or whatever the most current software update of android is.
I unlocked the bootloader and tried sending it some code chatgpt would reccomend (I know alot of you are gonna hound me on this, and ive since learned to stay away... this is literally the most time in front of a computer I've had in months and i honestly just started using chatgpt recently for things like writing letters to the IRS for me, science based questions, and some random things, but im now fucking over it and definitely wont be using it anymore, nor bringing it up in the forum).
Anyway I eventually corrupted the phone in the process of trying to get my ubuntu system to just recognize the pixel as a phone and not an integrated webcam, so all of this excludes any process of actually installing grapheneOS.
Any else have the inteagrated webcam issue? Anyone have advice on decorrupting my p8p? its literally like the green android dude on the black screen with a red triangle and says no command, i've tried power button and volume up, power button and volume down to try rescure mode, nothing.
Anyway thanks for sticking with the longwinded explanation and i hope to decorrupt this device and eventually get GOS, as my current android is cracked screen green flashing, probably gonna die soon.
