Future Pixel Tablets Discounted by Google

"Discontinued" isn't the right word to use. What Google said was that a new Google Pixel Tablet is not happening, at least not at this time. The Pixel Tablet still has a year of Android updates and 3 years of security updates left.

ErnestThornhill Thank you for clarifying this. I hadn't considered in three years they could change their minds and announce a new one.

They could but they won't, Google has a long history of killing products that are not performing exponentially well and so far no history of restoring them to life.

It's a shame. GrapheneOS on my Pixel Tablet is very nice. Once it goes end of life, there won't be any tablet options.

Isn't the existing pixel tablet missing a bunch of essential components like GPS? In any case, tablets, IMO, were a fad that has pretty much faded. Heading the way of "netbook". They can't do anything that you can't do on a phone, which you need anyway. This fact that they don't offer anything explains the lack of demand for them and therefore the lack of new models.

I think that's quite a statement, considering how well the iPad is doing, despite its limited software.
Tablet do have a market. Android tablets just tend to be executed poorly compared to the iPad.

secrec Yes id doesn't have a GPS. Same as my laptop doesnt. I use the tablet for email, shopping consuming news and streaming. I hate doing that on my phone. The tablet formfactor is very chillaxing.

I travel a lot in my work and it is very light compared to my laptop. Since i don't have use a laptop for produktive work its great. Though if there where a similar keyboard such as the Microsoft Surface Go to the tablet then it would be almost perfect.

secrec Sorry if it's a dumb question but what do you need the GPS for? If it's for forecasting wouldn't entering the location yourself do the same thing? Or does your work require your location to be public?

Interestingly, my business website gets 8,000 hits a month... last month 51 of those 8,000 were on tablets which is only 0.6% and it's been that way for over a year.

DeletedUser433 If Android 16 QPR1 desktop mode works you can sort of make your own. It might be ugly, but it could be possible.

MetropleX "account" and "consideration" are words that reflect the price/payment. Leaving out consideration literally means lowering the price.

Yeah honestly the size of phones in the past decade-ish (especially foldable) has made tablets very niche. I have some iPads gathering dust on my work desk because I can't think of a purpose for them. They have a place in schools and as small kiosks but would say for myself and most people (graphical artists being one exception) when it comes to being a personal device they're just the worst of both worlds between a phone and a laptop. A limited, locked down device that doesn't fit in the pocket and doesn't have a keyboard unless you awkwardly attach one to it and try to balance the whole thing on a flappy case or kickstand. Bleh.

A Linux "desktop" in the form factor of old palmtops would be of more interest to me nowadays.
