Wait, let me clarify: are you trying to MTP into a guest profile on the Pixel itself? I must have missed that the first time reading. I can't test if that even works properly at all... at least it never worked for me afair.

Someone with current access to GOS should test that out.

Nope. The pixel is regarded as a USB-device and I use "Redirect USB device" to assign it to the Guest. Then, I need to manipulate files on the 9a from the Guest OS file manager. Pretty standard stuff and as mentioned, the 4a and 2 Motorola are fine with it and have been for years.

Whatever it is, it is the 9a firmware. Especially so now that the the Host can connect OK.

Why the Host can now see it is a mystery, but maybe connecting to the win-10 laptop which worked fine and that set or reset something in the 9a and now the 9a is happy with the Host system at least.

The 9a is probably trying to do something at the bare-metal level within the Guest and it ain't there, but it is with the Host.

hardtimes ahh gotcha. You meant from inside a VM. The main question is: is this really a GrapheneOS issue or rather an Android 16 issue?

I am not sure honestly, since Graphene doesn't really touch the MTP code... just the USB-port controls could be related (but I also fail to see how).

Just 2 days ago, I was trying to copy some files into my 9 using OpenSuse Tumbleweed, and it kept disconnecting and I thought I was going crazy. I needed multiple tries until it finished copying before the next disconnection happened.

Welcome to my world. But, my disconnects are instant. Well, about 2-seconds. It boings, flashes and connects then drops it again. Albeit staying visible in the file manager all the while. Or it instantly goes off for about a minute the declares the "can't open..."

I have no idea either, but I am skeptical of it being a v16 issue as it connects OK with the Host. It's the same OS on both Guest and Host. The lsusb sees it as a valid USB device in both Guest and Host.

I am reluctant to go back to Stock Android just to see. Still kinda feel it's a 9a GOS thing.

I've done this in the past, no problems. But recently I tried to connect via USB and couldn't. I figured it was me somehow. Pixel 7 Pro, updated.

{grin} been there too. But at least the Host VM can see the 9a, not prefect, but acceptable -- for now??
