Fresh installation: no camera functionality

Today, I installed GrapheneOS on my Pixel 6 and was impressed by how smoothly everything ran. Everything except for one issue that I've been struggling with for hours: apps such as the camera and QR scanner don't work – the field of view is and remains black, and it's not possible to take pictures.
Of course, I granted access to the camera in the corresponding app settings. I went through the security and privacy settings countless times without finding anything suspicious.
Can any of you help me out here?

woodchuck if you haven't disabled the global camera toggle in the quick settings menu (swipe down from the top), the only thing that comes to mind is a hardware issue.

It might be cumbersome, but you might have to revert back to stock PixelOS to test this.

woodchuck Is the Camera toggle enabled? Did the camera work on the stock OS prior to installing GrapheneOS? It sounds like a hardware failure. Try fully turning off the device and then turning it back on rather than rebooting in case it's a hardware glitch which is likely. If it doesn't work after that, the camera hardware is likely dead.

Sometimes life is easy: I had already tried restarting the device, but turning it off did the trick. The problem is solved. Thanks for your help!

woodchuck It's likely the image sensor chip ended up in a bad state and needed a power cycle. It can happen in very rare cases and isn't GrapheneOS related. Reboot doesn't cut power to all of the components and some of those components don't reset themselves as part of rebooting so an actual power cycle can be useful.
