Cannot see my GOS Pixel9ProXL on KDE Connect

Hi All,
I have a Pixel9ProXL with latest GOS on it. My laptop runs TuxedoOS (Ubuntu-based).
When I connect my phone, after I make sure to select USB to "data transfer", I can browse my files in Dolphin or any other file manager.
However, when starting KDE Connect, I see "no devices found", and nothing happens when I use the "+ find devices" button.
On my GOS, I see:

Use USB for: File transfer
USB controlled by: This device (which I cannot change to "Connected device" - this returns a "Couldn't switch")

Before I investigate on the KDE side, are there experiences of successful usage of KDE Connect with a Pixel on GOS?

I need to send quite several SMSes every week and would like to do it from my computer with a full keyboard.
Any alternatives are welcome as well.

It is with a LOT of shame that I will write this, in case anyone would be as stupid as I am (very unlikely though!):

To enable "KDE Connect" communication between a phone and your Linux, you must install KDE Connect on the smartphone side as well!
