Now, if you just want to get wifi working then you can reduce your wifi security by choosing WEP at the bottom, then put a “key” which will be your password. It will work, it is not a great choice. Are you in an area where neighbors will be within range of your wifi?

Thank you for the information. I just hate using the google sms app since their servers have full access to all the data. I have tested it and it works just fine. The GOS messaging app still will not notify me of messages as they arrive.

Using google sms defeats the purpose of using GOS, but for now it will have to do.

I depend on sms quite a bit for family communication etc.

Notifications work fine for me. Have you touched the app's permissions and/or settings? If so, that can sometimes cause issues.

If you can get RCS working (This is its own rabbit hole, see https://discuss.grapheneos.org/d/1353-using-rcs-with-google-messages-on-grapheneos/ which is also the longest thread on the forum), at least the message content is end to end encrypted unlike SMS. Google would still have all the metadata, but only you and the recipient would have the message content. Some find this trade off worthwhile, because having sms messages sent in plaintext makes it easy for an attacker to snoop on a conversation.

After several hours of work on this new pixel 9a, I cannot get the notifications to work on the native GOS sms app. I tried the google sms app and it works perfectly. Unfortunately, these are the type of things that make using GOS and other privacy ROMs difficult for the average person. I'm stubborn, so will keep working with this until I can find a suitable replacement for the GOS sms that doesn't send all my data to big G.
