Device not connected to internet while locked

I'm using Graphene OS on my phone. A few days ago or so I stopped hearing notification sounds. The sound is working, the notifications settings haven't changed. I noticed that when I unlock my device, it connects to the internet and I receive notifications then. It used to be that I'd still get notifications and hear the sound while the device was locked.

I don't know how to debug this. It seems to be related to internet connection somehow, since the notifications are received when I use and unlock the device after leaving it alone for a while. It happens when I'm using Wifi or connected to my mobile provider's network.

hyperreal If possible, it would help to specify which apps are experiencing delayed notifications. That said, it sounds as if perhaps the app or perhaps Google Play components might be missing some permissions -- perhaps background data, perhaps unrestricted battery usage.

hyperreal Its probably the dns or vpn if you use any of that.
Keep the private dns off if you you use a vpn and still not working try turning off the vpn and see.

W1zardK1ng I suspected this too. I have Tailscale installed, which uses my Pihole instance for DNS and ad-blocking. I thought I turned it off but apparently it turned back on by itself. I'll try keeping it disabled and see if it has any difference. I'll also play around with different upstream DNS servers and local unbound.
